Loadwise Co-founder Tobias Schreiner on flexible grid connections in DataCenter-Insider
DataCenter-Insider, one of the leading German trade publications for the data center industry, has published a guest article by Loadwise Co-founder Tobias Schreiner.
The article takes on a question that comes up in almost every conversation about new data center sites: not land, demand or financing, but how much grid capacity is actually available. Flexible grid connections are increasingly discussed as one answer, and the rules governing them are being written across Europe right now, from Fluvius in Belgium to Ofgem in the UK and the European Commission. The piece makes the case that flexibility is not the same as shutdown, and that it only becomes a reliable commitment to the grid when it is clearly bounded, technically safeguarded and verifiable in operation.
The argument draws on more than 40 conversations with operators, developers and energy leads across six European countries, and on the patterns Loadwise sees in its early projects.
